Best Construction CFO Service Providers To Consider For Your Business

Managing finances in the construction industry comes with unique challenges. From fluctuating material costs and labor expenses, all the way to complex project budgets, cash flow management, and delayed client payments. For construction businesses looking to grow sustainably, having a clear understanding of their financial position is essential. But, maintaining a full-time chief financial officer (CFO) can be costly, especially for those who are small or midsized.

Construction CFO service providers offer a practical alternative, delivering specialized financial expertise to help businesses improve cash flow, manage project costs, and make more informed strategic decisions. So, whether you are a general contractor, subcontractor, or growing construction firm, the right CFO partner can help you plan for long term success.

CFO Strategies LLC is a financial management firm that provides outsourced CFO, accounting, and bookkeeping services to business, including to construction companies and subcontractors. Founded back in 2009 by Alan G. Lefkowitz, the firm offers access to senior level financial expertise without making a business employ a full time CFO.

The company focuses on helping businesses understand their financial performance, manage their cash flow better, improve reporting, and therefore make overall better informed decisions. The services are able to be delivered on-site, virtually, or through a hybrid arrangement - whichever works best for the client. Support is always tailored to the size and needs of the business, ensuring that the right solution is always found.

Pros:

One of the things that we like about this company is the fact that they have a lot of relevant construction industry experience. The founder has a background as a construction and real estate CFO which provides the overall company with a meaningful advantage.

Businesses are also able to access part time CFO and controller expertise, instead of hiring a full time executive. This is extremely helpful to small and midsize businesses, and with a range of arrangements available, they are flexible to what is needed.

We also love the fact that the firm covers both everyday accounting and strategic finance, meaning that they have a range of services to ensure they can cover it all. This makes it easier for companies as they only have to work with one company rather than coordinating multiple.

Cons:

One of the things that we’re not so keen on is the fact that pricing is not fully transparent as they will depend on the services required, the complexity of the needs, and more. As such, requesting a quote is necessary which can slow things down when comparing multiple options.

It’s also true that outsourced support might not suit everyone, which might mean that this is not a good option for those who need a more hands-on, regular approach.

The Barbin Group is a specialist outsourced CFO and financial management firm focused primarily on construction contractors and other trade businesses. They are based in Pennsylvania, they provide remote services to construction companies across the US. Its target clients are general and speciality contractors that generate between 3-30 million per year.

Unlike a general accounting firm, The Barbin Group is a strategic financial partner for construction businesses. The focus is on helping contractors understand project level profitability, improve financial reporting, and make better decisions when it comes to business growth.

The firm was established and is still run by Jason Barbin, who has experience within the industry which gives him the knowledge he needs to ensure he is making things easier for those who need him.

Pros:

We love the fact that this is a specialized firm that directly targets construction contractors, rather than trying to serve every single industry out there. This means their expertise is all used to help businesses make the best possible decisions.

As well as this, there is a lot of relevant construction and financial experience that should be considered. The background of the owner includes things like practical carpentry experience, as well as finance education, meaning that the combination helps him to understand the operational realities, and the financial decisions that are needed for success.

We also like the fact that The Barbin Group offers accounting and controller services alongside strategic CFO advice.

Cons:

The firm generally works with contractors who earn within a certain bracket, and for those who fall below this, the services might be more than what is needed. For larger construction groups, they may need a larger group to handle their financial needs.

Again, pricing requires a personalized quote which can be a pain in the behind when you want to compare the prices of different companies.

Frame CFO is another specialized financial management firm that is focused on helping construction businesses improve their financial visibility, project profitability, and cash flow. They provide outsourced and fractional CFO services, combining their strategic financial guidance with more hands-on accounting oversight for those who need more sophisticated financial management, but don’t want a full time CFO.

Frame CFO also has a target market of those who generate between 5 and 75 million in annual revenue, and their services are aimed predominantly at contractors who have grown beyond basic bookkeeping, and need more accurate reporting to keep them afloat.

Pros:

We love the fact that Frame CFO focuses specifically on construction businesses, including a range of companies that fall under this bracket. This makes them more directly relevant to construction finance, than those who offer general CFO services.

Another bonus is that the monthly reporting package from Frame CFO includes a 12 month rolling forecast, and key performance indicators. These can all help a construction owner to anticipate any shortages of cash and make better decisions about their finances.

Cons:

One of the downsides is that this is a relatively new business, having only been in operation since 2025. As such, a shorter track record can put some people off, and they would prefer to choose someone with more experience.

Again this is another one where pricing isn’t immediately clear, which is an inconvenience at best to customers, and a reason not to commit at worst.

We hope that you’ve found this article helpful, and will use it to help you choose a CFO going forward.
